5 Present-Day Indian Movies About Royalty Reviews
Bollywood is India's leading film industry, where more than 1,000 films are released per year, which is almost double Hollywood's 600 films per year. All of these movies are movies about royalty and love stories from the time. Since they are about royalty, the costumes in all of the movies are absolutely stunning. These are my opinions on the stories, the acting, and the fashion that is present in the stories. These are the 5 present-day Indian movies about royalty:

Jodha Akbar is a true story about the Mughal legendary king Akbar and his Hindu wife Jodha. The two were arranged to be married but the bride was very reluctant to do so, as he was a Muslim man. Little did she know that her fiancee was a very open-minded man who let her have her freedom with the religion of her choice. The two fall in love over the course of the movie. This movie takes you into a story of wits, war, betrayal, and love. Powerful and beautiful songs make this film come to life. Jodha is played by the lovely 1994 Miss World winner Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, while Akbar is played by the incredibly handsome Hrithik Roshan. Both of them are known nationwide in India. This movie was truly one of my favorite movies of all time as there were so much beauty and wonderful acting that was clearly present in this 2008 movie.
The clothing was also absolutely stunning. Aishwarya flaunted many beautiful Indian dresses with a combination of beautiful jewelry as shown in these images. Hrithik also wore a variety of Indian male clothing with a great assortment of jewelry.

This movie was based on the Shakespeare classic Romeo and Juliet, where people from two opposing sides meet and fall in love. This movie takes place in Gujrat, India in the modern-day era. The two clans, Rajadi and Sanera had been at war for 500 years when the two lovers, Ram and Leela meet during a Holi festival and instantly get closer. This film takes you through a series of battle, fun, comedy, and romance while still keeping you on your toes for more. The director of this film, Sanjay Leela Bhansali directed many movies on this list. His movies are always among one of the best. The two talented actors, Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone, were also both together in the movies that Bhansali directed in this list. The two actors created such a chemistry on screen that it was perfect to be brought together for further films.

As shown, the costumes and jewelry were absolutely gorgeous and perfect for the theme and time period. The clothes in certain scenes also fit the mood of the scene at the time. The costumes brought such aesthetic pleasure and the colors made the scenes come to life. For example, during the first Holi scene, everyone had bright colored clothes and were dancing, but during the scenes about war, people were dressed in darker colors to fit the mood. This movie is worth watching just to look at the different clothes and jewelry.
This story about a powerful love is one of my favorites, as it is a love story of two warriors. Bajirao, a very powerful prime minister of Maratha, was previously married to Kashi when he met and fell in love with Mastani, a Muslim warrior. This is a story of the two and the hardships they went through to be with each other. Part of the problem was that Mastani was a Muslim, while Bajirao was a Hindu who was already married. Kashi grew immensely jealous of Mastani, who she knew was the Radha to her Krishna**. This movie takes you through a series of battle, romance, hatred, and death to create a very meaningful ending. The director of this film is Sanjay Leela Bhansali once again with Deepika Padukone as Mastani and Ranveer Singh acting as Bajirao. The internationally known Priyanka Chopra played the role of Kashi. The combination of these people created an amazing movie. My two favorite songs from this movie are Pinga and Deewani Mastani.
As clearly shown in the songs, the costumes and jewelry were absolutely gorgeous. Furthermore, the colors fit its occasion. In the song Pinga, as they were celebrating a Hindu occasion, they were wearing Hindu colors such as maroon adorned with golden jewelry. In Deewani Mastani, they introduced a Muslim girl, Mastani, so everyone wore gold and green--Muslim colors. The set was also absolutely amazing. This was something I especially loved about this. This movie is a must-watch.
**Krishna, a Hindu god, had many lovers and one of them was Radha. Although she wasn't his wife, she is often more recognized and more loved by Krishna himself amongst all of his lovers. He had many more wives such as Rukmini, whom all aren't nearly as recognized as Radha. In this movie, Kashi passes a comment where she says that being the girlfriend such as Radha is better than being the wife such as Rukmini. This comment had even more meaning as Mastani was not married to Bajirao, though Kashi was.

This legendary series was originally in Telegu and Tamil but was such a hit that it was dubbed in Hindi as well. This hit series is about Amarendra and Mahendra Baahubali, who were two princes of Mahishmati. The first movie is about Mahendra Baahubali, the son of Amarendra Baahubali. The second movie is about Amarendra Baahubali and his story. The first movie ends in a major cliffhanger about the father and the second movie tells the story that leads up to the cliffhanger and finishes the tale. With beautiful costumes and set, the first movie became the sixth highest grossing Indian film worldwide. This is a story about loyalty, war, power, and love. The Telegu actor Prabhas played both Amarendra and Mahendra Baahubali. This movie is something that needs to be watched.
- Padmaavat (2018)
This movie was long awaited and was supposed to be a hit and also one of the most expensive Indian movies made, but it was not my favorite movie. This story was based on an epic about Padmavati where Maharwal Ratan Singh and Padmavati fall in love with each other, but Khilji, wanting everything for himself, hears about Padmavati being the most beautiful woman ever and he wants her to be his. Although clothing and set were absolutely beautiful, there was not much I liked about this movie other than the performance of the actors. The costumes and set presented a variety of colors and the choreography was also great, fitting the role of the characters and the time period. Ghoomar is one of the more popular songs from this movie and it is one of my favorites. Deepika was absolutely beautiful in this song and she danced while having pounds and pounds of clothing and jewelry on her. In this song, the women are dancing to a traditional Ghoomar dance.
Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone were together once again, but Ranveer Singh played the villain Alauddin Khilji, while Deepika played Padmavati herself. Shahid Kapoor played Padmavati's lover. The director, once again, is Sanjay Leela Bhansali. This movie had much controversy prior to its release, and therefore Bhansali had to cut out many scenes. Ranveer Singh truly acted very, very well in my opinion. In fact, he was so in character that he needed therapy to get out of it. Though, in real life, Sultan Alauddin Khilji was truly a very smart man, which was not how he was portrayed in this movie. I would not say this is a must watch.
